Sisterhood

Phi Mu is the laughter, smiles, squeals, and hugs on the first day back in the Fall. It is knowing spontaneous fun can happen at any moment. It is the people we run to with the best of news and who support us during our greatest challenges. It is the sister around the corner who will join you for lunch, every week, same place. It is the smile from across the quad, as you find your sister wearing a letter shirt that matches yours.

Sisterhood has no boundaries: from spring break trips, to road trips for concerts or conferences, to even studying abroad in various countries. The sisters of Rho Zeta know that the best memories are made when we share them together. We will forever remember these times spent together and know that our sisters will be with us long after we graduate.

We celebrate sisterhood in a variety of ways, one of the strongest ways is through Big and Little Sisters. When a woman becomes a provisional member, they get to know the other members in our chapter and get paired with another woman who will be their "Big Sister." The "Little Sister" is then showered with anonymous gifts from their "Big," welcoming them into the chapter, and giving away small clues as to who their Big is. At the end of the week, we do our Big/Little Reveal where we finally get to reveal who their Big is. The bond between a Big and Little sister is very special, as well as the "family" the new member is placed into. We truly embrace this special bond.

Rho Zeta also does several Sisterhood events throughout the year, from movie nights, smores nights, and, most importantly, our sisterhood retreat. The 2016 retreat was held at Manhattan on Broadway in downtown Louisville, where we had a night's worth of warm memories and great bonding experiences.

“Sorority life is a loyalty that develops as a pledge becomes active. It is rushing and pledging, meetings and songs, pledge duties and lessons, the determination to grow as a group. Keen competition, close cooperation – loyalty. It is campaigns and trophies, firesides and formals, traditions and memories. It is a senior farewell – but a life-long pledge.”
